The Year 8 History incursion is a day full of captivating, interactive, and hands-on experiences, allowing students to immerse themselves in the life and era of King Tut. The student's thoroughly enjoyed it. Here are some reflections from the day:
During the King Tut Roadshow incursion on Thursday 17th and Friday 18th August, the students in Year 8 experienced a variety of interesting and excellent activities with our classes. From making clay seals to visiting the Truck, full of prized and recreated historical items, such as old pottery and papyrus texts. There were many highlights during the day, but in my opinion, the Tut Roadshow truck and the Archaeology classes were the finest. During these classes we learnt to identify, compare, and contrast masculine and feminine human skulls as well as experience the opportunity to be up close to some beautiful and expensive primary and secondary artifacts from the medieval time period. These interactive experiences allowed us students to walk away with more than just knowledge, but new life experiences that we will never forget.

The Tut roadshow incursion was one of the most exhilarating and excellent experiences I have had in history this year. It had fun and enjoyable activities with some interactive activities for the students. It was on Thursday 17th and Friday 18th August. There were six activities during the day that we transitioned through throughout the day, The six activities were, the Tut Roadshow Truck trailer, King Tut’s Tomb, Archaeology, Writing, Maths and Seals. My highlights of the day were the whole thing! The whole incursion was great for me with many different highlights that I can’t even name.
We learnt in classes how many soldiers died back in the day and looked at the scars in their skulls to determine their deaths, we learnt how to write out names in ancient hieroglyphic writing and also we learnt what the first ever languages were. In math, we learnt about the royal cubit and how that was their measurement. They would calculate things using the Royal’s cubit measurement, they used them by fingers, hands, and arms. In Tut’s tomb, we learnt how to draw like ancient Egyptians and how they drew their tomb paintings. The Tut trailer was amazing seeing many of the replica artifacts and even some real ones! We watched a bunch of videos about King Tut. The last one and my favourite one was when we made our own seals that resemble us, We made them with clay and replicas of seal printers. My experience with this incursion was wonderful seeing many artefacts, and replica artefacts. The experience is what I would recommend to other schools and people looking for a wonderful and interactive experience.
Sydney Carruthers, Year 8
The History Incursion was an amazing experience for all my peers and I. The day was fun, interactive and most of all, an awesome learning day to discover how life was in New Kingdom Egypt. We rotated through various activities which included; maths where we would measure our height using ancient Egypt metrics and numbers (cubit), writing where we examined how writing evolved and different forms of ancient writing and wrote our names in Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs. We also made our own seals out of clay to learn how they were used. We explored Tutankhamun’s Tomb Paintings and learnt about beliefs and styles of art seen in his tomb. We also examined ancient archeological remains such as skulls and bones, to determine the cause of death and what we could uncover about life and death in Ancient Egypt. My favourite was the Tut Roadshow Truck where we learnt about how King Tutankhamun lived through what artefacts reveal. This was done by watching videos that explored the excavation process and by examining replicas of the time and there were even some real artefacts which was amazing. The day was truly an incredible day and experience that I won’t forget.
Fynn Grady, Year 8
The History Incursion was an insightful, enjoyable and interactive experience, exploring the life and death of Ancient Egypt. We learnt about the similarities and differences between our everyday life compared to people in that time, indulging in activities involving ancient mathematics, signs and symbols, archaeology, languages and the evolution of their civilization. My highlight of the day was exploring the life of famous King Tutankhamun, reading the wall paintings of his tomb and going into the Tut Truck, inspecting real artefacts from over 4,000 years ago.
Aidan Attard, Year 8
For the History Incursion, we learnt about ancient Egypt maths, writing and seals. We did a fun interactive activity learning about Ancient Egyptian Archaeology, in which we figured out the cause of death of a person based on their skeleton. There was a lifesize King Tut’s tomb with different paintings of some of the few Gods, including Anubis and King Tutankhamun. My favourite was for sure the King Tutankhamun truck (Tut truck), which we learnt about different artefacts and excavations during Ancient Egypt. We got to see Ancient Artefacts that date back to Ancient Egypt. Overall, the history induction was an entertaining, interactive experience where we gained a deeper understanding of Ancient Egypt and King Tutankhamun.
Jacob Farrant, Year 8
During the History incursion, we attended a number of different interesting activities, like the Tut Truck where we watched detailed videos describing the life of King Tut and looking around the room at some artefacts dated back 4000 years. We entered a model of King Tut's tomb, which we got to explore and find out the history of its discovery and contents. My favourite experience was Egyptian mathematics, where we learnt about the Egyptian measurements and got to play some Egyptian dice games.
